we're here, we're queer, we're brunching!

Aaaaand this is what happens when your straight friends forget to show up for easter brunch. You end up with a decapitated bunny,  a half-drunk bottle of champagne, and evidence of a show-and-tell about sex toys.

I made maple hot cross buns from here (so yummy!) and a herb kuku wrapped in lavash bread. The kuku was: 1 block tofu + 1 batch okara (or 1 cup soy yogurt) blended together, 1/4 c cornstarch dissolved in 1/4 cup water, 1/2 c nutritional yeast, salt, 1 tbs cumin, 1 tbs dijon mustard, dash tumeric, grind or two of pepper, a few tsp of barberries, 1 tbs dried fenugreek leaves (kasuri methi), 3 tbs of flour mixed with 1 tbs baking powder,  and 1 cup each of the following fresh herbs, chopped finely: dill, coriander, parsley and wild garlic. Spread onto a pizza dish and bake for 40 mins at 400F. Cool, slice into fingers, and wrap in lavash bread. Dip: soy yogurt, garlic, mint, rose petals, salt. In the little bowls: one bowl each of green olives, cherry tomatoes, very dark easter eggs from Montezuma mixed with chocolate covered almonds from Coco, and mixed grapes. I have to say that between the food and the vast amount of info on sex, you straight people really missed out.

We also had a bunny from Coco chocolate, who rock because they have kick-ass fair trade chocolate *and* a list of vegan stuff (so you don't have to guess), plus they're super-nice at the shop and have good taste in music. Yay! Plus, this bunny didn't skimp on the chocolate, or try to use subpar chocolate just because it's in the shape of a bunny. Go Coco!

I can't even begin to imagine what that kuku stuff would taste like, it's so unfamiliar. I miss you and your food-making.

Oddly fitting ver word: crech

kuku is basically an eastern take on a fritatta/crustless quiche.... it's yum.

good word. very cromulent.

First, Bikini kill is pretty great. Second, I love brunch and yours looks like it was a great time. Third, I have that black and green plate the bunny is sitting on!! How random! I bought it here in Japan..

I love your blog but I'm not sure I ever posted a comment. I'm so lazy. I just like the stories and food porn.

hi! i love knowing that people are reading my blog!

...i think that plate is one of the standard-issue japanese plates that you can buy in asian grocery stores the world over (along with those blue and white bowls with fish on them). that plate is a present from my sister. I suspect she got it in chinatown in montreal. i've moved it to two different countries with me so far. some people put up photos of their loved ones. i like to use dishes they gave me and smile about how lucky i am to have such awesome friends and family, because i'm weird that way. though it does mean i have a rather motley assortment of dishes.

Oh I wish I lived closer, so I could be included in those yummy meals and all the sex info. I could live vicariously while being well fed and intro'd to music I'd never heard of!

I don't care if you're a real person or a spambot. Don't use my blog to advertise products.

So.
Much.
Fun!

And super delicious, too. I loved the pretty little bowls filled with dainties, and the kuku was spectacular and so herby. The hot cross buns were great, too. And the sex info was (of course) dazzling.

I hope that more people are able to come next Easter! The Kitchen Dancer sets a gorgeous table whenever I see it, and the smells and tastes are out of this world.
